About Us
Banoo Foundation is a women-led nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the rights, dignity, and opportunities of Afghan women and girls.
Founded by journalist and documentary filmmaker Marjan Sadat, Banoo was established in response to the urgent challenges facing women in Afghanistan.
Through advocacy, education, access to information, leadership development, and community-based initiatives, we strengthen women’s voices and expand opportunities for meaningful participation in society. Guided by the principles of gender equality, inclusion, and human rights, Banoo works to create lasting change and empower women and girls to shape their own futures.
Our Journey
Banoo began in 2016 as one of Afghanistan’s first women-founded travel agencies, creating opportunities for women through employment, education, and scholarships. In 2026, Banoo Foundation was registered as a nonprofit in Canada to expand this mission. Today, Banoo empowers women and girls through advocacy, education, skills development, and community engagement, fostering leadership, confidence, and economic independence.

Banoo Foundation was founded on the belief that every Afghan woman and girl deserves the opportunity to learn, lead, and live with dignity. What began as an effort to create opportunities for women has grown into a platform dedicated to empowerment, education, advocacy, and inclusion.
Our goal is to amplify women’s voices, support their aspirations, and create opportunities that enable them to reach their full potential. Through collaboration, community engagement, and meaningful partnerships, we strive to contribute to a future where Afghan women and girls can participate fully in society and shape their own destinies.
